Harmful dog food is not from Australia
The Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service has been unable to find any evidence of a connection between Australia and the dog food that has been causing illness in Chinese pets.
Optima is manufactured in the United States, and in some other countries under licence. The Pet Food Industry Association of Australia advises that Optima dog food has not been manufactured in Australia since 2006.
The Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service, which controls the import and export of goods, advises that Optima dog food is not being imported into Australia and it is not being exported to China from Australia.
The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ), has also confirmed it has not issued any import permits for or inspected any imports of Optima pet food from Australia since 2004.
