A Secret History of Blue and White in Guangdong

The Australian Consulate-General will put on an exhibition “A Secret History of Blue and White” at Guangdong Shiwan Ceramics Museum at Foshan from 10 to 30 November 2007.

“A Secret History of Blue and White” is a touring exhibition initiated by the Asialink Centre of The University of Melbourne in partnership with Jam Factory Contemporary Craft and Design, and supported by The Australian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

This exhibition highlights the diversity and strength of Australian ceramics and positions it within European and Asian ceramic histories. The exhibition includes works by five contemporary Australian artists who have individually contributed to the success of Australian craft. Each artist explores the potency of ‘blue and white’ within their practice, acknowledging its historical weight and cultural clichés.

A Secret History of Blue and White has toured through Asia before it comes to Foshan for its last stop and will returns to Australia in December.

This year is the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Australia and the People’s Republic of China. The Australian Consulate-General will organize a series of culture events for this special occasion. A Secret History of Blue and White will raise the curtain of the events.
