“Experience Australia” in Shenzhen

“Shenzhen residents will have an unprecedented opportunity to enjoy many great Australian experiences in a week of special events during the week of 15 to 20 May,” the Australian Consul-General in Guangzhou, Mr Sean Kelly, announced today. “Experience Australia” will include exhibitions, cultural performances, food and wine promotions and special events that bring the Australian experience home to Shenzhen.

The week will begin with Australian food, wine and product promotions across Shenzhen.

The newly-opened in Sheraton Shenzhen Futian Hotel will offer a special buffet menu of fine Australian-style food complemented with excellent Australian wines in a promotion from 15 to 20 May. The opening on the evening of 15 May will feature performances by Australian Aboriginal dance group “Western Creation” and Australian jazz trio “Blues Solution”.

An Australia Food Festival will also be held at Wal-Mart’s Shekou store from 15 to 23 May. A wide variety of Australian products will be featured at great prices.

Three of Shenzhen’s most popular bars and restaurants - Polo Garden Restaurant, Nutaste, and Thai Amarin – will also participate in Australian wine promotions between 17 and 20 May. All patrons will be offered a complimentary glass of the Australian wine of their choice from a wide range of brands being offered by two of Shenzhen’s major wine distributors.

A highlight of the “Experience Australia” week activities will be the Australian Pavilion at the 3rd China (Shenzhen) International Cultural Industries Fair, where 23 Australian companies will present their goods and services, ranging from food and beverage to creative design and decorating, travel services to residential property development. Australian Aboriginal dance group “Western Creation” and Australian jazz trio “Blues Solution” will be performing at different times throughout the Fair, and visitors will be invited to sample Australian wines. Colourful artist Kendall Perkins will entertain visitors with her bold painting style. Visitors will also be fascinated by the Melbourne Chinese Museum’s “An Australian Way of Life” exhibition, chronicling the contributions of Chinese migrants to Australian society over the past 150 years.

During “Experience Australia”, the Consul-General will also be hosting a number of special events to highlight Australia’s engagement with Shenzhen, including a reception for students who have studied in Australia and an Australian business networking night.
