Lost/stolen Passports, ANZAC Day, May Holiday closures
Dear Australians in south China
Welcome to those Australians who are in Guangzhou for the 101th Chinese Import and Export Commodities Fair that is being held during the second half of April 2007. The “Canton Fair” sees a large number of foreign citizens arrive in Guangzhou. Visitors and residents may not be aware that the Consulate typically sees a rise in lost or stolen Australian passports during this time.
Your passport is a valuable document that is attractive to criminals who may try to use your identity to commit crimes. It should always be kept in a safe place. You are required by Australian law to report a lost or stolen passport. If your passport is lost or stolen overseas, report it online (http://www.passports.gov.au/Web/renewal/lost_stolen.aspx ) or contact the nearest Australian Embassy, High Commission or Consulate (http://www.dfat.gov.au/missions/index.html ) as soon as possible.
Further advice about travelling overseas is available at the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s Smartraveller website at http://www.smartraveller.gov.au .
The Australian Consulate-General and New Zealand Trade and Enterprise in Guangzhou will be holding an ANZAC Day dawn service at 06.00am on Wednesday 25 April 2007. For security and catering reasons, guests must register in advance. Once guests have registered, further information will be provided including the ceremony venue and the program of events. Please note that guests must also present photographic identification upon arrival. The pre-registration form is available online at the Consulate’s website - http://www.guangzhou.china.embassy.gov.au . I hope that many Australian and New Zealand friends can join us for this important ceremony.
Best wishes also to you and your families for the upcoming May Holidays in China. Please note that the Australian Consulate-General in Guangzhou will be closed from Tuesday 1 May and will reopen on Thursday 03 May 2007.
Tip!
Yours sincerely
Christopher Green
