$1.5 million in Scholarships Awarded to China by Australia

In 2007, Australia will provide A$1.5 million to 19 high achieving scholars and professionals in China to study in Australia under the Endeavour Scholarships Programme.

The Australian Minister for Education, Science and Training, the Hon Julie Bishop MP, announced the successful recipients of Endeavour Awards for 2007 recently

The Endeavour Programme is a A$276 million Australian Government initiative that brings high achieving students, researchers and professionals from around the world to Australia for study, research or professional development in a broad range of disciplines. The Programme enables Australians to do the same abroad.

The Chinese Endeavour Award recipients will travel to Australia to undertake a wide range of research projects in fields such as accounting, human rights, biometrics, nanotechnology, medical research, maritime and corporate law, and corporate governance.

The programme exemplifies the commitment Australia and China share in fostering quality educational and research links between our two countries.

The Endeavour Awards include funding of A$195,000 for postgraduate students, which shows Australia’s serious commitment to developing high achieving individuals. Chinese Endeavour Award recipients will return home with improved academic qualifications from Australian education providers that are recognised world-wide for their excellence in education. Australia will also benefit, as the Chinese award recipients will help to foster a greater understanding of China and opportunities to build stronger linkages and networks for the future.

The Endeavour Programme is an internationally competitive and merit-based scholarship programme that will provide over 9,000 scholarships over five years to 2011. The scholarships are a mix of postgraduate, undergraduate, vocational and technical education courses, and research and professional development awards. They are open to all fields of study.
