MEDIA RELEASE
AUSTRALIAN CONSULATE GENERAL GUANGZHOU
RESEARCH COOPERATION AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE QUEENSLAND UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY AND THE SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT OF GUANGDONG

On 23 March 2015, the Vice-Governor of Guangdong together with the Australian Consul General and officials from the Australian Trade Commission (Austrade) witnessed the signing of a landmark research cooperation agreement between the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and the Science and Technology Department of Guangdong. The agreement is the first of its kind between an Australian University and the Guangdong government.

The cooperation agreement was initiated by the Governor of Guangdong Zhu Xiaodan during his visit to Australia last year during the G20.

The agreement provides a platform for the development of joint research in three areas: Air Quality; Tissue Engineering and re generative medicine; and public health.

QUT’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Peter Coaldrake signed the Agreement on research collaboration and said at the signing “this provides a valuable opportunity for researchers in QUT and our partner institutions in China to further deepen our research links, to work together on joint publications and joint applications for funding at the Provincial and national levels”.

The Australian Consul General said “forging increased academic and commercial linkages between China and Australia is one of the priorities of the Australian Government.”

Austrade, the Government’s trade, investment and education promotion agency, is working with organisations in Australia looking to partner with China on R&D and technology commercialisation opportunities.

During 18-23 April, Austrade will run events in Shenzhen and Beijing promoting Australia’s credentials in R&D and innovation and interest in partnering with China to commercialise our technologies and innovation.
