Australian Federal Election 2007
2007年度澳大利亚联邦选举

Fellow Australians,

As you may be aware, an Australian federal election is to be held on Saturday, 24 November 2007. The Consulate-General will again be providing polling services to citizens in our region.

Voting in Guangzhou will take place at 6th floor of the Development Center, 3 Linjiang Da Dao, Zhujiang New City (the same building as where the Australian Consulate-General is located). Note however that voting services will be located on the 6th floor of the Development Centre (not at the 12th floor Chancery).

Pre-polling services will be available from 8.30am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday from 12 November 2007 until Election Day. Pre-polling services will not be available on the weekend of 17-18 November 2007.

Polling services on Election Day, Saturday, 24 November 2007 will be open from 8:30am to 5.00pm.

All voters must present photo ID, preferably their Australian passport, before entering the voting premises.

If you have any enquires please telephone the Consulate on (020) 3814 0111 or fax (020) 3814 0112.

Please note that voting is compulsory in federal elections for Australian citizens resident in Australia. However, if you are outside Australia on Election Day, you will not be fined should you fail to vote as long as you have notified the AEC. For further information, please contact the Australian Electoral Commission via their website www.aec.gov.au , email [email protected]  or phone +61 2 6271 4411.

I would be grateful if you could forward this message on to or bring it to the attention of other Australians you know who might not have registered with the Consulate-General to let them know about this service and have the opportunity to cast their vote.

I would also ask for your help to encourage all Australian citizens you know to register with the Consulate-General.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has an on-line registration system in place that allows you to register your presence in China. You can change your details at any time, and can de-register once you have left the country. The Consulate-General encourages all Australian citizens to make full use of this facility. The website address for registrations is www.orao.dfat.gov.au . This website can also be accessed through the Services to Australians Overseas page of the Consulate-General's website (www.guangzhou.china.embassy.gov.au/gzho/consular.html ), which also contains travel advice specific to China, as well as other useful information about living and working overseas.

The information you provide when registering is fully protected for your privacy, and cannot be used for any other purpose than to provide consular assistance and services to you. This information is very important in enabling the Consulate-General to contact you in case of an emergency. We therefore encourage you to include an e-mail address in your registration, as well as a mobile phone number for SMS contact, should that be necessary.

As well as facilitating contact in an emergency, registration will also allow you to receive periodic consular bulletins by e-mail from the Consulate-General. These address isses such as voting arrangements for elections, changes to passport arrangements, as well as important information on health-related matters.

It is in the interests of all Australian citizens to be registered with the Consulate-General.

Yours sincerely
